Ultrapure Water

Ultrapure Water

Ultrapure water refers to water that is highly refined to suppress impurities to extremely low levels. It must meet various restrictions, such as containing no more than 20 particles with a diameter of 0.1 micrometers (0.0001mm) or less per cubic centimeter and minimal microorganisms.

Uses of Ultrapure Water

Ultrapure water is used not only for semiconductor production (46%) but also in various advanced industries such as display manufacturing (36%), chemical production (15%), power plants, pharmaceuticals, and secondary batteries.
Semiconductor production requiring nanometer-scale precision is highly sensitive to particles, making ultrapure water essential for cleanliness, contaminant removal, and improved productivity.

Prospects for the Semiconductor Market with Ultrapure Water

  • The global semiconductor market, valued at 560 trillion KRW in 2020, is projected to grow to 680 trillion KRW by 2025. Accordingly, the ultrapure water market is estimated to increase from 19.5 trillion KRW in 2020 to 23.4 trillion KRW by 2024.
  • Semiconductor demand will keep rising, driven by traditional devices like smartphones and future industries like autonomous vehicles and drones.
